On our return from Peru my sister and I were discussing what we had learned from the, "River People," of the Amazon. We were joking that so many people continually look for the 1 key to healthy life, the same healthy life that the River People take for granted. We had observed the differences from the lifestyle there and here in the US and saw that it isn't about 1 key, but an entire key chain full of keys.
Protein and health bars were the things we were mostly laughing about, "since when is a healthy life preserved inside of a package, that is stored inside of a box, and sold in a store, where the actual food contents could be thousands of miles away from where they originated?" and then continue, "does sleep come in a package as well?" It went on for over an hour while enjoying the scenery in the Andean Plateau that is on the border between the Andes Mountains and the rainforest.
I have began a rewarding challenge for myself which is, before I eat each meal or snack, I ask myself if that food would be available in the Amazon Rainforest, where chronic disease is almost non-existent. Almost nothing in a typical American diet would be available there. What an awakening.
